Defying an 11-month absence is no mean fete and that’s exactly what Dubawi filly MELLOW YELLOW managed to do making all at Wolverhampton last time. She went up through the gears and kept on strongly, never looking in any sort of danger. She has won 2 of her 3 starts now and looks a lovely prospect for William Haggas and The King. She goes handicapping and an opening mark of just 88 surely underestimates her? She should relish the step up to a mile and a half and I’m struggling to find any negatives about her. Swoon didn’t run badly when third to Hello Jumeirah at Ascot and has won over this trip so that would be a positive. She looks the danger but likely needs to improve again. Hexameter made the most of a good opportunity at Ripon but is another to note if stepping forward again here.

I thought BLUE UNIVERSE was a big eye-catcher on debut at Kempton last month. This colt was sent off at a big price at 33/1 so connections seemingly wasn’t expecting too much. He was held up in rear early and looked to be going nowhere at one stage but the penny seemed to drop and he ran on well a furlong from home to finish fifth. He will know a lot more this time around and if he has improved this may well be within reach. Those horses in front of him the last day all had good form in the book so I think it was a pretty good race as well. The danger is probably Runaholic who has experience on side and has been beaten a head the last twice. He might not be the most straightforward though and depending how the market goes could be opposable. Connemara Coast weakened late on debut at Ascot but the second Blanchland has franked that already.
