UK Horse Racing Tips: Dundalk

HARRY'S BAR can add a seventh course success at a track where he has excelled in recent seasons. The Ado McGuinness-trained gelding has won in handicap company off big weights on his two most recent visits, so should appreciate the return to this company. Well treated by race conditions, he should make a bold bid to enhance his impressive Dundalk record. Logo Hunter should provide a stern test, as a former course winner who subsequently won twice at Listed level. He will find this drop in class to his liking, having run in Group 1 company at Royal Ascot last time. The Highway Rat also enters calculations having run Harry's Bar close over course and distance last October. He has a bit to find at these weights but cannot be ruled out.

CORALILLO who had been on an upward curve prior to disappointing at Fairyhouse last time can resume winning ways. The daughter of Havana Grey had excuses for the aforementioned run as she was found to be distressed post race. Prior to that, the Harty trained filly had only weakened close home when third in Group 3 company over 6f. Dropping back to this trip looks like it should really suit. Congo River has less to prove than most, as he has already been successful over this course and distance. Aside from one poor run on soft ground at Galway, the Ballydoyle colt has been largely consistent. Apricot Twist has shown plenty of speed in her races, so is very interesting on her first try at the minimum trip. Malrescia has struggled at the highest level recently but should really appreciate this significant drop in class.

KARAKOUL should be good enough to finally shed his maiden tag. The Aga Khan-owned gelding has run well in some decent maidens all year, often just being unfortunate to bump into a couple of above average types. Provided he handles the polytrack surface, he won't get many better opportunities to win in this grade. Lord Abama looks the chief threat, especially now that the Halford stable appear to have hit form. With only the four starts under his belt, the Profitable gelding has more scope for improvement than a lot of these rivals. Inchiquin Star is more exposed after 13 starts but has been remarkably consistent in handicap company, so commands respect with Jamie Powell taking 7lb off her back. Scarlet Angel may prefer slightly further but runners from her yard should never be discounted.

LADY SKIPPER finished behind a couple of these when ninth at Down Royal recently but didn't enjoy much luck in running. The James Barrett-trained filly finished out her race well, having been trapped behind horses over a furlong out. Granted a clearer passage on this occasion, the Acclamation filly can go close. Stablemate Fendi was three places in front on that occasion but didn't suffer the same traffic problems. Nonetheless, she had finished second in a Claimer on her previous start, so is running well. Amemri also ran in that Down Royal race, finishing seventh after a difficult passage. She too, is capable of better. Static Charge has struggled over sprint trips of late so will appreciate stepping back up in distance.

Aidan O'Brien can take this juvenile prize with the twice-raced CAIRO. Runner-up on his debut at the Curragh in early August, the Quality Road colt made the expected improvement when landing his maiden at that same track next time. Given his pedigree, the colt should be ideally suited to the polytrack surface he encounters here. Pearling Path has been highly tried since finishing second in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot. Despite appearing to fall short of the top level, the John O'Donoghue-trained runner should be very competitive in this company. Daamberdiplomat won his maiden at the Curragh before running well enough when raised in grade. He is another that holds a live chance if continuing to improve.

DARKDESERTHIGHWAY who landed a tidy gamble when successful over course and distance last time can follow up. The Michael O'Callaghan-trained four-year-old has again been done no favours with a wide draw but managed to overcome that obstacle on her previous visit. An 8lb rise doesn't seem excessive given the ease of her win, so connections will be hoping to see a repeat performance. Endless Season stayed on well when fourth here over 7f recently on handicap debut. The daughter of War Command should be suited to the extra furlong she encounters now. Maestro Stick was an easy winner over a furlong shorter here in March but wasn't stopping at the finish. He should be more at home back on this surface, having shown little in three subsequent turf starts.

MISS ABBY JOOLS can strike here, having enjoyed little luck in running when third over course and distance on her previous visit. Trainer Michael Halford has his string back in rude health in recent weeks and this three-year-old looks a winner in waiting. Sierra Nevada kept on nicely when fourth over 10f here last time. Dropping back in trip doesn't appear an obvious positive but the booking of champion jockey Colin Keane certainly is. Phoenix Open has long given the impression of being a well handicapped horse. Despite winning on turf at Gowran Park last month, he has to remain of significant interest back on the polytrack. International Lady and Tynamite are others to consider in a competitive heat.

GULLIVER'S TRAVELS is difficult to get away from, having won his last two starts. The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt could have any amount of improvement in him off this mark and has to be followed until beaten. As a recent course and distance winner, he also has less to prove in terms of stamina and ability to handle the surface. Amortentia would be a very serious threat if staying the extra 2f. An unlucky in running fourth at the Curragh over 10f in July, the daughter of Caravaggio gave the impression she could be well treated. With the form of the aforementioned race working out really well, the only question is one regarding her stamina. Phoenix Cowboy makes a quick reappearance after the Irish Cesarewitch with the booking of Jack Kearney catching the eye.
