Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's action.
The John McConnell trained ONLYHUMAN (best priced at 8/1) hasn’t won since his victory in this race three years ago but he is well handicapped and ran well last time. The nine-year-old won this race in 2019 off a mark of 96 by three lengths and is now rated 89. He ran well to finish 3rd on his stable debut in July when outrunning odds of 50/1 before only finishing 4 ½ lengths behind the winner at Galway on his next start.
Onlyhuman was only beaten ½ length when 3rd last time at Listowel over a mile shaping like this step back up in trip to 1m1f would suit. That run came off a mark of 88 and he is only 1lb higher and I expect him to run well with up to five places available.
The Henry De Bromhead trained JASON THE MILITANT (best priced at 5/4) hasn’t been seen over hurdles since his 3rd placed finish in this race last year but he comes here fit having had two recent flat runs. The eight-year-old had to carry a 7lb penalty last year and was still only beaten four lengths by Saldier and Darasso who were both in receipt of weight. Following that run he has won on the flat at Naas since before finishing 3rd at Roscommon on his reappearance this season.
Jason The Militant finished well beaten in the Irish St Leger last time but that would have been a prep run for this and I expect him to beat Abacadabras who is making his reappearance following 278 days off the track and has to concede weight to his rival who is rated 2lbs higher than him.
I have tipped Willie McReery’s mare INSINUENDO (best priced at 20/1) on her previous two starts and feel she has been unlucky to finish a neck 2nd in both. She was only beaten ¾ length by 1000 Guineas winner Mother Earth on her reappearance at the Curragh before nearly upsetting Arc De Triomphe favourite Luxembourg on his reappearance in the Royal Whip Stakes.
Insinuendo was unlucky not to win the Blandford Stakes at the Curragh last time as she didn’t get a clear run until late on in the race before flying home to finish only a neck behind the reopposing Above The Curve. With more luck in running here she is evenly matched with Above The Curve and I feel she is overpriced with five places on offer.
