Despite not getting his head in front all season MAKANAH has run some big races in defeat and again shaped well when sixth in the Portland at Doncaster last month. He could never get on terms to land a blow but that was obviously fiercely competitive. This smaller field will likely suit and back in calmer waters he should have a massive chance to strike while his yard is riding hot. Justanotherbottle was way behind the selection in that race mentioned but ran well beaten just the two lengths at Ripon last time so does look the mos obvious threat. Lampang has a chance on his best form this season but was beaten nearly seven lengths at York and would need to better that here to get competitive. Edward Cornelius has won over C&D but this looks tough enough. Lullaby Bay will also find this a bit too much.

A lot of these lining up are pretty exposed so I think it represents a decent opportunity for RETURN VOYAGE to make the breakthrough. She took a big step forward on handicap debut to finish second at Chepstow last time and if she builds on that once more up just a couple of pounds she will definitely go close. This trip looks ideal and I don’t think they’ll be too many excuses. Clashaniska is a decent yardstick and has held his form well in defeat since winning at Chepstow. He looks to be the main danger with Hollie Doyle booked for the ride. On Reflection has more to come but better was expected when only fifth behind Amasova at Chelmsford last month. Maahi Ve its till a maiden and even in a first-time visor it is hard to imagine her seriously threatening. Not a great deal of strength in depth in here.
