He is going to need to improve again but NO RECOLLECTION won nicely at Worcester back in July and given the second Al Zaraqaan has franked that form since he might be leniently treated off an opening mark of 106. He has been beaten on the Flat since but that was a really competitive handicap at Lingfield so I’m happy to put a line through that. This doesn’t look the strongest of races and it will be disappointing if he can’t go close under Tom Cannon. Phoenix Aquilus has a similar profile to the selection having finished second at Southwell when last seen in this sphere, beaten less than a length. His mark looks workable too so he will likely emerge as the main threat. Leopolds Rock was only third off this mark last time and will need more against a couple of improvers.

Wonderful Times does look the one to beat on form but she has become expensive to follow and she spurned another decent opportunity at Yarmouth last time. The second Dame Ethel Smyth let that form down yesterday too which would have to be concerning. I much prefer JEAN DANJOU for Brian Meehan. This son of Lope De Vega ran a cracker on racecourse debut going down just a neck at Goodwood last month. The winner Maghlaak had won impressively at Kempton prior to that and looks a nice prospect for Shadwell. The fourth Seeola who was beaten a long way won next time out at Newcastle so the form definitely has substance. It wouldn’t surprise me if Dubawi colt Dungeon turned out to be the danger but he will need to improve and might need more time.
