UK Horse Racing Tips: Yarmouth

Alzahir will be popular as he makes his return to action under the guidance of Frankie Dettori. The son of Sea The Starts was last seen finishing eighth in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot but has notably undergone wind surgery since. His sights are considerably lowered and, given that he still holds an entry for next year's Derby, he's very much one to consider. However, as a half-brother to the ill-fated 2000 Guineas winner Coroebus, the Godolphin-owned PHERENIKOS gets the nod. He could be absolutely anything and merits serious thought given his illustrious family ties and connections. Ssenwan is tipped for a supporting role on his debut.

TAFREEJ rattled home in a stylish manner when he finished third in a decent Newbury maiden last month and is a strong fancy to get off the mark at the third time of asking. Miqdaad is related to winners over slightly further but also has to merit consideration given his yard's impressive impressive strike-rate with juveniles on turf this year. Al Khawaneej Spirt and Dear Daphne rate best of the rest.

RICHARD P SMITH has been unfortunate to find at least one too good in each of his last five starts. However, none of the these opponents can match him for consistency and he's worth another throw of the dice in a modest handicap. Goldsmith returned from a break with a fair effort at Kempton last month and will be a player if using that as a platform towards better things, while Shabs and Coconut Bay are also noted.

Sea Speedwell hasn't lived up to expectations this season after winning on her second career start last year, but she may well have been found a race she can go close in with her jockey's 5lb claim a bonus. Super Chief is going the right way after his Newmarket success and cannot be discounted, but if GLEN COVE can transfer his all-weather form to the turf, he could be the one. An easy winner at Southwell last month, he has improved since going up in trip.

It looks a big ask for Pennymoor to win after over 11 months off the track, but the form of her second to Sea La Rosa has been boosted many times. She can go well in a first-time hood, but, if PERFECT ALIBI is on her game, she may prove hard to beat. A handicap winner at Newbury in July, she was second to Hoo Ya Mal in the March Stakes at Goodwood and a repeat of that may prove enough. Ark is also taken seriously.

If GONE can repeat or better her Chelmsford third on her return to turf, she could be the one the others have to beat. Attrazione drops in class for her handicap debut and is worth a market watch over what may prove a more suitable trip, while Equiami wasn't beaten that far off 1lb higher at Wolverhampton last month and may have more to offer as he gains in experience.

Yarmouth specialist Priscilla's Wish was a well-backed favourite and winner of her last four races here, but she has gone up 18lb in the handicap since July. She's still respected but the latest 5lb hike surely makes life tougher. SPANISH MANE won't mind any cut underfoot and, having looked sharper for the fitting of headgear last time out, Julia Fielden's charge is a tad more appealing. Yoshimi and Ideal Guest can also figure.

Having been gelded since he was last seen, Rogue Star is one to monitor closely in the betting, while Fourshadesofsilver was back to form with a professional display at Brighton last Tuesday. He's one to seriously consider, but it's significant that Louis Steward switches from that gelding to partner ANGLO SAXSON and, given that the five-year-old is already a three-time winner at Yarmouth, he is fancied to brush aside the 4lb rise he received for his latest C&D success.
