Following a 2/1 winner yesterday, Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's action, with runners at Wetherby & Wolverhampton.
15:05 Wetherby
The Philip Kirby trained WHOSHOTTHESHERIFF (best priced at 10/3) won this race last season on his reappearance and he should hold strong claims off a repeat victory this year off only a 4lb higher mark.
The eight-year-old won off a mark of 138 last season off a 178 day break before disappointing off higher marks in better races on his next few starts. He showed he is best fresh when winning at Carlisle following a 52 day break in March off a mark of 138 before finishing 5th behind Beakstown in a listed handicap chase on his next start at Ayr.
Whoshotthesheriff drops down in class again to a Class 3 0-140 handicap off top weight but crucially comes here fresh following 194 day off the track. He has never won off a mark as high as 142 but conditions will suit and I expect him to hold strong claims back to back wins in this race.
15:40 Wetherby
The Gillian Boanas trained TEESCOMPONENTS LAD (best priced at 7/2) has a consistent record at Wetherby and despite being beaten in this race for the last three years, he can hopefully make it fourth time lucky!
The nine-year-old has form figures of 3145442 at the course and was only beaten in this race last year by a neck off a mark of 130. Since then, he has been running consistently well with form figures of 213632434 including a win at Market Rasen off a mark of 130.
Teescomponents Lad runs here off a mark of 131 which should be within reach and he is ridden once again by his regular rider Tom Midgley claiming 5lbs.
15:50 Wolverhampton
The Ivan Furtado trained THE NAIL GUNNER (best priced at 4/1) has form figures of 5111 at Wolverhampton in handicaps and he should hold strong claims of adding to his recent course and distance success. The four-year-old has won off marks of 57, 60 and 65 over this course and distance and now races off a 3lb higher mark following his recent ¾ length success.
The Nail Gunner made all that day at Wolverhampton under Joey Haynes and he should hold strong claims of repeating those tactics with Joey Haynes once again riding and the gelding coming out of Stall 3.
