GYTO's Wednesday Notebook Double pays 10/1.

I’ve got a feeling it could be a big day for William Buick at Newmarket on Wednesday given the book of rides he has. Hopefully he gets off to a perfect start with MARIE LAVEAU for Marcus Tregoning. This filly by Sir Percy was beaten a fair way into fourth on debut at Newbury but she was slowly into stride and the penny only really dropped in the closing stages. She stayed on well and the three in front of her look useful types so the form should work out in time. She was sent off at 66/1 so it was very much a first day at school and she should improve plenty. Tiamat knew her job to make a winning debut at Newcastle but this is tougher and it won’t be easy carrying a penalty. She could still be the danger but giving 5lb is a tough enough ask. Hopeful is the most interesting of the debutants so worth a market check.

There was lots to like about the way MOUNT ATHOS travelled and put it to bed at Thirsk when last seen back in June. He made all on that occasion and was five lengths too good for the opposition. He goes handicapping now and I’ll be very surprised if he doesn’t prove ahead of his opening mark of 84 given the second Conflict has won twice since and looks a nice colt for Andrew Balding. The form has worked out well as a whole actually so that has to be a big plus. I was with Odisseo last time and he looked a bit unlucky finishing second. He is off the same mark so may well put up the most resistance. Flame Of Freedom won over C&D last time showing a good attitude so might go well for a long way but she will find this tougher especially up against the potential of the selection. Intervention also likely to be competitive.
