The Roger Fell trained HARSWELL DUKE (best priced at 13/8) has won his previous two starts on soft and heavy ground and he should hold strong claims of completing the hattrick under a 5lb penalty. The four-year-old gelding won over this course and distance on his penultimate start off a mark of 78 before following up at Leicester on Monday off only 1lb higher.

On both occasions the phrase ‘always doing enough’ was used at the finish showing that Harswell Duke was probably more dominant than the winning margins suggested and I expect him to win once again despite a 5lb penalty.

The Karl Burke trained FAST RESPONSE (best priced at 9/4) is 3/3 on soft or heavy ground and she should hold strong claims under a 6lb penalty in this race. The three-year-old filly won over this course and distance on soft ground on her penultimate start off a mark of 85 by a neck before winning in impressive style by 2 ½ lengths last time at Doncaster on heavy ground.

Fast Response won easily last time off a mark of 88 and she now runs here under a 6lb penalty which makes her 1lbs “well in” at the weights following a 7lb rise from the handicapper and I expect her to prove hard to beat in her hattrick bid.
