16:18 Mackenburg

Back over fences MACKENBERG has to be of major interest at Ayr on Saturday. This horse was a perfect 3-3 in this sphere last season before switching back to hurdles and pulling up in a Grade 3 at Aintree. He has won fresh before so fitness shouldn’t be an issue and back down to 2 miles should suit given arguably his most impressive performance came over this trip at Carlisle back in February. He still has a lot of potential in this sphere and 6/1 looks too big to me. Dubai Days was thriving when last seen so could be one of the dangers but he has always needed his first run of the season so that was enough to put me off and he is favourite. Pay The Piper is talented but has a bit to prove following that Kelso run which was poor but fences had been taken out due to low sun. Hasankey wasn’t disgraced in the Grand Annual when last seen and is also respected.
