ERNEST GRAY was sent off at just 4/1 for the Grade 2 bumper at Aintree after bolting up under a penalty at Warwick the previous month and Alan King's five-year-old remains an exciting hurdling prospect, despite disappointing that day. Ice Coast posted two creditable efforts in defeat in France and is one to consider on his UK debut. Libberty Hunter is another to consider after finishing a promising sixth in a Listed NH Flat race at Newbury back in February.

Sergeant Wilson has questions to answer after unseating at the first at Bangor, but shouldn't be dismissed given the authority he won with at Taunton in a NH Flat race.

The Paul Nicholls stable has already made a fine start to the new campaign and they could have a decent novice on their hands in the shape of KNOWSLEY ROAD, who was a comfortable winner of a bumper here in March. The step up in trip should be right up his street and he may have too much for Imperial Storm, who shaped well on his hurdling debut at Market Rasen in August. Others to note include point-to-point winners Grave La Klass, Time For A Pint, Hot Rod Lincoln and Hurricane Highway.

This can go the way of DATSALRIGHTGINO, who shaped well behind a smart prospect on his debut over fences at Newton Abbot. The six-year-old was pitched into some major races last season and he is clearly highly thought of by connections. A talented novice hurdler at one stage in his career, the well-handicapped Calico returned to form when runner-up over timber at Cheltenham and must be considered along with No Risk Des Flos, who has a good strike-rate to his name.

CAMEMBERT ELECTRIC won with something to spare when upped in trip at Ffos Las and there is likely to be plenty more improvement forthcoming from Tom Lacey's charge. Hurdles and fences seem to come alike to Astra Via, who almost always runs her race and occupied the runner-up berth over C&D last week. Milanese Rose can also pose a threat following a decent second at Plumpton.

Davitt Road Glory has switched stables since a creditable third at Exeter a year ago and has to enter calculations having proven she goes well fresh on that occasion. Preference is still for the Brian Barr-trained BENANDGONE, who returned from a break to finish a distant third at Stratford last month. He drops in class and should be sharper for that run. Our Bill's Aunt also merits consideration on her seasonal/handicap debut.

A case can be made for several of these, including the Martin Keighley-trained Genovese, who made the perfect start to his career when scoring by a neck at Worcester. He does have to shoulder a 7lb penalty, though, so preference is for ISAAC DES OBEAUX, who cost 100,000 euros as a two-year-old and his dam is a half-sister to the stable's top-class chaser Clan Des Obeaux. Point-to-point winner Doyen For Money is just one other to consider.
