However, GARRY CLERMONT makes the long trip up to the Cumbria racecourse and rates a chasing type. The Jonjo O'Neill inmate was only just denied on his seasonal debut last season and could be ready to roll. Hasty Brook's opening mark looks fair and he has less questions to answer than the returning Tamar Bridge.

RAE DES CHAMPS only found a Nicky Henderson inmate too good at Kelso when finishing second in March and, with that rival subsequently winning a Listed hurdle, a 1lb rise may prove lenient on this seasonal return. Marsh Wren put her Doncaster disappointment behind her with a game success at Hexham and she may prove the biggest threat to the selection ahead of Merry Mistress.

TOMMY'S OSCAR showed girt and determination to win a match race over C&D last month and, given that he would be giving weight away all round were this a handicap, he has a very obvious chance. Cheddleton has shown consistency over fences and is rated as the main danger, while Malystic posted a decent effort when second at Kelso last month and is another to bear in mind.

IROKO, who was fourth in the Grade 1 Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow last December before filling the same position in a Grade 2 at Kempton when last seen, sets the standard and is the one to side with on this occasion. Jet Legs is open to improvement and rates next best, while the shortlist is completed by Dedanser, who adapted well to hurdles last season and should strip fitter for his Ayr outing.

After comfortable wins at Sedgefield an Ayr, BIG CHANGES is on a roll and is hard to oppose in his bid to land a quick-fire hat-tick over fences. Dropping back in trip shouldn't be too much of an issue for the selection and he is taken to have too much in the locker for Uptown Harry and Well Above Par, who look the pick of the opposition. The latter, who won this race last year, has undergone wind surgery since his latest start.
