It's fair to say PEACE OF ROME showed signs of greenness en route to finishing second in a bumper at Warwick at the back end of last season, but he still created the impression there are races to be won with him. This looks an ideal starting point for the season and a more accomplished display can be expected. Way Out also caught the eye on his debut under Rules when he was second at Ascot 10 days ago, while Forlano is bred to be effective at the winter game and is another with potential to strike at this level.

Venetia Williams has traditionally done well with French imports and she pitches Oxygen in at a realistic level for his debut on these shores. He's worth a betting check, while Farmer's Gamble and Feel The Pinch are shaping up nicely in this discipline and are others to seriously consider. However, preference is for SALIGO BAY, who has at least made the frame in all bar one of his seven previous starts over hurdles. His latest effort, when a good second at Fakenham 13 days ago, gives him a fitness edge on his main rivals and another big run can be expected.

It was a modest race that ART OF ILLUSION won at Plumpton last month but the manner of the performance suggested that the gelding has a lot more to offer as a chaser. The drop to this trip shouldn't be too much of an issue and, given that Hiway One O Three has undergone wind surgery since he was last seen, and Fort Denison has yet to prove himself capable over fences, the Warren Greatrex-trained five-year-old has fewer questions to answer than those expected to form the main body of the opposition.

Sam Thomas' horses could hardly be in better form at present and JUBILEE EXPRESS could be up to defying a penalty if improving further following his victory at Hereford back in March. Twin Power showed enough in bumpers to suggest he'll win races over hurdles, so he's respected for the in-form Paul Nicholls yard. Mister Who made a pleasing start for Toby Lawes when second at Fontwell last month and he's another who could go well.

OZZIE MAN made a winning start over fences when victorious at Plumpton last month and it's still very early days for Gary Moore's six-year-old, so he's fancied to take the 2lb rise for that in his stride. Coronado Joe was anything but consistent over hurdles but he could fare better over fences, especially having undergone wind surgery, while No Hubs No Hoobs could fare best of the rest hailing from the in-form Joe Tizzard yard.

Top Ville Ben was last seen pulling up in the Grand National at Aintree but previously recorded a creditable second in a Grade 2 hurdle at Haydock. He can bounce back on his return to action but has to carry top-weight for this contest, so it is easier to side with the relatively unexposed STELLAR MAGIC. He has run well fresh in the past and is capable of delivering once more, while Barbados Buck's should also not be dismissed for powerful connections.

A wide-open contest in which marginal preference is for the unexposed SHOT BOII. He was last seen finishing a distant fourth over 3m at Wetherby in March, so a drop in trip could work in his favour. He is now rated only 5lb higher than his last winning mark and is open to progression, while a stiffer stamina test may see Baddesley sneak closer into contention from his most recent run in September. Celtic Tara completes the shortlist.
