He has a 250-day layoff to overcome, but his trainer has been firing in the winners of late. Brief Times has filled her runner-up berth on his last three starts, including over 2m at Uttoxeter 17 days ago, and should give another good account. Dom Of Mary is another to consider.

Charles Byrnes sends over GROZNI from his Limerick base and the six-year-old can make sure connections don't go home empty handed. He ran out a comfortable winner of a 2m7f handicap at Punchestown last month and a repeat of that form should suffice in this novice contest. He is unproven with cut in the ground, though, and Heaven Smart, who was second in a similar C&D event a fortnight ago, could be a threat along with Scamallach Liath.

It's interesting that Charles Byrnes crosses the Irish Sea to give WAJAAHA his return to hurdles and he could prove tough to beat. He's fit from a Flat campaign and showed plenty of promise as a novice hurdler in 2020, so he should prove too hot for his rivals in this seller if he retains that ability. City Derby can prove the main threat if back on song, while Albert Van Ornum and China Princess are noted too.

LE COEUR NET won this in 2020 off a mark 13lb higher than he faces here and although the going will be faster now, he cannot be ignored at a course he loves, with two wins and five second spots from nine starts here. Darebin needs to bounce back to his best to win this but is potentially well handicapped if he does, while Dame du Soir is a decent sort but is proving difficult to win with.

Gerico Ville can go close, but top weight for a maiden over hurdles seems a big ask and he may have to settle for a place. Baddesley looks capable of winning another race and should be better suited by the drop back to this trip, but STORM HILL is the pick. A 40/1 winner here in February, he was going well enough before falling four out at Warwick at the start of this month and may make amends for that now.

Even on good ground the marathon trip facing the chasers here will ask questions of some of them, but hopefully not BLADE RUNNER, who ran on well over 3m2f when second here last month. A first-time visor may help him go one better today, with Game Line possibly his biggest danger after a solid second at Cartmel in July. Largy Nights scored over a similar distance at Stratford when last seen in April but has a 5lb rise to contend with on his return.

Caoilin Quinn was accomplished in the saddle when he rode a winner over 2m4f here for his boss Gary Moore last month and his 7lb claim can be a big asset as BEAUFORT WEST bids to defy top weight. The gelding , who was returning from a break when a good third in that aforementioned race, should strip fitter for the run and looks the most solid option. The Tin Miner and Universal Island complete the shortlist.
