LAW ELLA should be capable of going one better than her recent second on hurdling debut at Galway. A winner on her racecourse debut at Down Royal last March, she stepped up considerably on that bare form when second in a Grade 2 mares' bumper at Aintree the following month. With the benefit of that initial run over hurdles, she looks the one to beat. Battling Bessie ran to a similar level as the selection in bumpers last season but has ground to make up now, having finished behind Law Ella in the aforementioned Galway race. If coming on from that reappearance, she is capable of going close. Harmonya Maker lacks a run over flights but was one of the smarter mares in bumpers, so, she too, is deserving of close consideration in an above-average race for the grade.

GERRI COLOMBE faces a stiff task in an attempt to maintain his unbeaten career record but may just be capable of doing just that. A smart novice over hurdles last season, the Henry De Bromhead-trained six-year-old has always given the impression he would be a better horse over fences. Winner on his sole point-to-point start at Lingstown, he has done nothing but improve since racing under Rules. Freedom To Dream ran with credit in the highest grade last season and ended the campaign with big runs at the major Spring festivals. While lacking previous experience over fences, he could take high rank among the novices if adapting to the discipline. Coqolino and Bronn both hold strong claims as useful hurdlers who represent two of the bigger stables.

MATTIE'S MOUNTAIN might be good enough to register a first win over fences in a tight-knit affair. The seven-year-old ran a huge race when second on his reappearance at Listowel last month and would have gone close less than a week later but for a final fence blunder at that same track. Michael O'Sullivan is riding incredibly well at the minute and the 5lb he takes off here could prove the difference. Broomfield Hall made a winning chasing debut over this course and distance last month. The Philip Dempsey-trained mare looks a real improver, having won her last three starts but does have to carry a penalty against this opposition. The Priests Leap, who ran well at Wexford on his recent stable debut, has plenty chasing experience and is also worthy of consideration.

The presence of leading British amateur Gina Andrews on the Charles Byrnes-trained TEMPTATIONINMILAN immediately catches the eye. A staying-on winner of a 2m4f handicap chase at the Listowel Festival, the six-year-old gave the impression he would benefit from stepping up in distance. That theory was put to the test at Punchestown last time, where but for a final fence blunder he may well have won. Despite meeting the winner of that aforementioned race on slightly worse terms now, he looks the one to beat. Menindee, who won that Punchestown race, has since run creditably back over hurdles at Down Royal. She has to be an obvious contender once more. Meehall won both starts either side of disappointing behind the selection at Listowel and he also appears to have a serious chance in a competitive affair.

ER DANCER may prove the one to beat. The winner of a hunter chase and five point-to-points was let down by his jumping a few times in the spring but should have his confidence restored after finishing second at Tattersalls Farm last month behind previous smart hurdler Brain Power. That was a high class open event with Hardline, a Grade 1 winner over fences, back in third. Its On The Line won two hunter chases earlier this year and finished well when just denied on his point-to-point reappearance last month. Faith Loving beat Ferns Lock in a match at Portrush last month. The latter has since won easily at Loughbrickland and should have scope for further improvement.

CARRIG CAROL has scope for improvement off her current mark. The selection showed promise when keeping on into third in a maiden hurdle at Ballinrobe this spring and again finished well when switched to handicap company on her last completed start at Sligo last month. Hard Rain is one for the shortlist after a couple of solid efforts including over this trip at Sligo while We'llhavewan, who won twice over hurdles earlier this year, has been let down by his jumping recently over fences. Loup De Tallane came from a long way back to justify good support at Wexford last month, while Jakie Mac returned to form when just denied at Listowel last time. Saga Aravis won a 24-runner amateur riders race at Naas last winter but needs to bounce back after a disappointing effort on his reappearance last month.

The market should provide plenty of clues as to the relative merits of the point-to-point form on show here and perhaps ZAIDI can land the spoils. Derek O'Connor was aboard the Born To Sea gelding when successful between the flags at Moig South nearly 12 months ago and the form of that race has worked out quite well since producing a good share of winners. Gordon Elliott sets a poser with two runners. Search For Glory was purchased for 200,000 pounds at Cheltenham just after winning at Quakerstown in April, while it's interesting that Jamie Codd is booked on Cardamon Hill. The latter is closely related to Binocular and showed promise in three point starts for Colin McKeever last season.
