13:30 Ascot

Back against her own sex I think GLIMPSE OF GALA is going to be tough to beat at Ascot on Saturday. After getting outpaced she was staying on strongly at the finish at Aintree last time and went down less than a length at the line. She is coming to the boil nicely now and this looks a good opportunity on paper. There is potential for both Midnightreflection and Coquelicot to go forward and that would be an ideal scenario if they went hard and took each other on. The latter is the danger of that pair but there is an argument she might want it softer than this. Terresita capped off last season with a convincing win at Kempton but we haven’t seen her for 7 months now so you’d think she will improve for the run. Victorias Peak is quickly back over hurdles but has a stiff enough mark on handicap debut.

Despite making a bad mistake 2 out at Carlisle HOUSTON TEXAS ran on strongly to win by a short head and built on that again to bring up a hat-trick of wins on reappearance at that venue last month. He is improving all the time and while this is his toughest task to date he is a chaser I want to keep on side. He did it with swagger last time so a 6lb rise might prove lenient given how progressive he has looked. Good Boy Bobby seemed to need the run at Ascot 3 weeks ago and might emerge as the danger if stepping forward from that. He beat Lord Du Mesnil in the Rowland Meyrick at Wetherby last season so that rival is unlikely to be too far away either. Fontaine Collonges won 2 of her last 3 last season but Venetia Williams is yet to get going this season and that would have to be concerning.
