Coral Gold Cup

Speaking exclusively on Racing Weekly, Sam Turner gave his thoughts on the favourite for the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury, but admitted he has his eye on two others at longer prices.

He said that the Grade 3 National Hunt steeplechase is a “good quality handicap” now lacking any Cheltenham Gold Cup horses now after Protektorat opted instead for last week’s Betfair Chase.

“CORACH RAMBLER is a player so long as he doesn't get too far back. It's difficult to make ground up in this race. At the Cheltenham Festival, he had the hill where he put in an astonishing burst to win the Ultima Handicap Chase.

“I think he's a quality horse, running him over 2m4f at Carlisle was a pipe opener. He's a decent starting point in the race but there are two others that take my eye.”

“BUSSELTON is a good ground horse and won the Kerry National for the second year running. He got a bit lucky with Hewick coming down at the last but even if he'd been second by half a length it's still a tremendous run. He stays well, loves good ground, it looks like this race has been the target for some time and conditions should play to his strengths.”

“The other one is OUR POWER trained by Sam Thomas. He beat Danny Kirwan, a talented horse but one that can curl up under pressure, at Ascot and he was 11 lengths behind Corach Rambler at Cheltenham but I like the fact he's won round the track, I think he's a better flat track horse.”
