The Jonjo O’Neill trained SOARING GLORY (best priced at 11/8) has a fantastic record fresh and he should prove hard to beat on his chasing debut. The seven-year-old has form figures of 11111 following runs after more than a 50 day break including victories over Bravemansgame in a novice hurdle and a Betfair Hurdle win.

Soaring Glory won on his reappearance last season off a mark of 143 and is only 4lbs higher here in this novices’ handicap chase. He finished only 2 ½ lengths behind Epatante in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton last year before finishing 5th in the Betfair Hurdle so he comes into this race with strong pieces of form from last season and hopefully he can make another winning reappearance.

This looks a competitive 80-130 handicap but preference goes to the Harry Rogers trained LORD ERSKINE (best priced at 12/1) who ran well on his latest start. The nine-year-old won twice earlier this year on the flat off marks of 68 and 70 and is also a previous winner of this race in 2020. He won off a mark of 116 that day under Rachael Blackmore and he runs here off only a 2lb higher mark.

Lord Erskine ran well to finish 5th a week ago at Punchestown over three miles where he just weakened late on so this drop back to 2m6f should suit him perfectly. Bookmakers are offering up to six places on this race and he should run well with the talented Michael O’Sullivan claiming 5lbs.

Gigginstown House Stud have a strong hand in the Troytown Handicap Chase this year but the horse I feel is overpriced currently is the Gordon Elliott trained DEFI BLEU (best priced at 25/1). The nine-year-old outran odds of 20/1 to win a competitive Fairyhouse handicap chase last season off a mark of 131 before finishing 6th in the Munster National on his reappearance under Jordan Gainford.

Defi Bleu finished a close 2nd in the Cork National last time when only 2 ¼ lengths behind Captain Kangaroo and he finally looks like he is putting it all together over fences. With up to six places available and off only a 4lbs higher mark he looks sure to go well in this race.
