Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's action, with runners at Market Rasen & Leicester.
12:07 Market Rasen
The Kim Bailey trained GERARD MENTOR (best priced at 7/4) has won all three starts under Kai Lenihan and he should hold strong claims in this race. The six-year-old has won at Warwick, Exeter and Ludlow so far this season off marks of 90, 95 and 102 and put in his most impressive performance 10 days ago when victorious by 18 lengths at the finish.
The handicapper has raised Gerard Mentor 9lbs up to a mark of 111 but instead runs here under a 7lb penalty which means he runs here 2lbs “well in” at the weights. Ithaka looks the biggest danger on his first start for Ryan Potter but I expect Gerard Mentor to make it 4/4 under this rider.
The Ben Pauling trained APPLES ROCK (best priced at 7/4) won easily at Southwell 9 days ago and he should hold strong claims off the same mark. The eight-year-old won by two lengths on his reappearance under Luca Morgan in a conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle and gets to run here off the same mark.
The handicapper has raised Apples Rock 6lbs for his victory last time which means he is 6lbs “well in” at the weights and I expect him to justify favouritism in this race.

The favourite Imperial Hurricane may prove well handicapped off a mark of 100 on his handicap debut but preference instead goes to OLIVER'S ISLAND (best priced at 5/2) who finished a nose 2nd at Lingfield last week. The Jessica Bedi trained ten-year-old is inconsistent but runs here off only 10-5 and is 4lbs “well in” at the weights.
Oliver’s Island finished 2nd by a nose last time at Lingfield from 2lbs out of the weights and the handicapper has raised the gelding up to a mark of 81 for that effort but he instead runs here off a mark of 77. A repeat of that performance would be good enough to win this and I expect him to prove hard to beat with Aaron Anderson once again 5lbs.
