Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's action.
Imperial Storm looks like this step up in trip on handicap debut will suit but I prefer the chances of You Some Boy (best priced at 7/2) who is unbeaten at this track and comes into this race following a good 2nd last time. The Rebecca Menzies trained seven-year-old completed a hat-trick of wins last season in handicap hurdles including two over this course and distance off marks of 90 and 94.
You Some Boy disappointed on his reappearance at Kelso over 2m5f before appreciating the step back up in trip to 3m2f there on his next start. You Some Boy finished a close 2nd off a mark of 100 that day with the pair pulling 11 lengths clear of the third. The handicapper has raised You Some Boy 4lbs for that effort up to a career high mark of 104 but I expect him to run well on his return to Wetherby.
The Gordon Elliott trained Kansas City Star (best priced at 10/3) was a disappointing beaten favourite on his stable debut but has looked full of promise on his two other starts. The five-year-old was an impressive 21 length winner of a PTP for Colin Bowe before disappointing in a bumper on his stable debut in February.
Kansas City Star finished a close 2nd behind Ashroe Diamond on his hurdling debut at Naas last month with the pair pulling 6 ½ lengths clear of the third. The winner is well fancied for the Grade 1 Royal Bond Novice Hurdle tomorrow so that looks a strong piece of form and I expect Kansas City Star to get off the mark at the second attempt.
The Sean Curran trained Domaine De L’Isle (best priced at 33/1) is extremely well handicapped based on his fourth placed finish in this race last season and I am hoping he can outrun his odds again this year. The nine-year-old outran odds of 66/1 to finish 4th last season off a mark of 147 before unseating his rider in the Grand National in April.
Domaine De L’Isle has disappointed on his two starts this season but that has meant he has dropped down to a mark of 132 which makes him 15lbs lower than last year and I expect him to outrun his odds with up to seven places available.
