WEST BALBOA was pulled out at Newbury last weekend but, if allowed to take her chance here, then she gets the vote. She was a most impressive winner on her UK debut at Warwick last year and was then pitched into Grade 1 company at Newbury when second to Stage Star. Coquelicot made all to win nicely at Ascot a fortnight ago and warrants respect, as does the unexposed Plenty Of Time, who is having her first run for Gay Kelleway.

This extra yardage looks sure to bring out further improvement in recent course winner HALO DES OBEAUX. The French-bred gelding appears to have come back from his summer holiday a stronger horse this term and another bold showing looks assured. Call Me Lord won his first race for a couple of years at Kempton last month and has claims at a track he's won at three times in the past. Dolphin Square is another who can't be discounted on his reappearance having gone well fresh in the past.

JONBON relished the switch to the larger obstacles when readily dismissing his rivals at Warwick last month. The brother to Douvan put seven lengths between himself and the 148-rated Monmiral and he gets the nod to continue his ascendancy. Boothill put in a stellar jumping display when recording a second victory over fences at Ascot last time out and is the main danger. Unexpected Party was no match for McFabulous at Exeter but, considering that form has been advertised handsomely since, the seven-year-old cannot be overlooked.

Love Envoi makes her seasonal reappearance after landing the spoils on five of her six outings last term. The Harry Fry-trained mare gave a good account when second in Grade 1 company at Fairyhouse last time out and she demands the utmost respect dropping into handicap company. Marginal preference, however, is for NAYATI, who recorded a career-best effort at Bangor last month. The eight-year-old kept on well to score that day and he may be able to defy a 6lb penalty. Homme Public is another to consider.

Paul Nicholls has an outstanding record in this race and has won the last two renewals, most recently with Greaneteen, so it would be dangerous to overlook him as he bids to secure back-to-back victories. However, EDWARDSTONE was nothing but progressive last season and should not be taken lightly on his return to action. He has proven to run well fresh in the past and lost little in defeat behind Gentleman De Mee in April, a defeat which was arguably the result of a long season. Shishkin bolted up on his seasonal reappearance last year and is a big threat.

Deise Aba was tried over timber on his seasonal appearance last month and a return to fences can see him get closer into contention. However, he could struggle off top weight and it is easier to side with the consistent REVELS HILL, who returned from a break to record a pleasing second at Ascot over 2m5f. It is likely there is more to come from him stepping up in trip, while the booking of Harry Cobden for Eclair De Guye catches the eye and he completes the shortlist.
