Ilanz did win well at Market Rasen a week ago and he escapes a penalty as it was a conditional jockeys event but I’m not convinced I’d want to take a short price. I’m not sure he beat a great deal and this will likely be tougher. HYLAND has a fair bit more experience to draw upon and was in winning form himself when last seen back in May. He actually won two of his last four to cap off last season and up just 4lb on return looks the type to do better this campaign.

Bar the front pair Magistrato isn’t entirely ignored either as he has a run under his belt albeit finishing well down the field at Ascot on return. This will be his second run following a wind op so I’m guessing better will be expected now. On the balance he probably still needs more as does On To Victory who is back over hurdles now.

There was lots to like about the way COPPERKNOB put it altogether to make all at Brighton back in the summer. He is a big horse with plenty of scope and he looks well handicapped back on the AW here. He seems the type to go on to better things and I’m keen to keep him on side. There is plenty of pace on here from Rhubarb Bikini, Chateau d’If and The Bay Warrior so I think Tom Queally will take a pull and just track them through rather than get racing too early.

The danger is probably Far Horizon who showed a good attitude to win at a big price at Lingfield last month. He goes handicapping now but needs to prove this step up in trip will suit. They Don’t Know was denied just a neck by Cabinet Maker at Kempton 3 starts back and that is good form so he could also run a nice race.
