Following a 2/1 winner yesterday, Steve Ryder is back with three selections for today's action.
14:45 Wetherby
The Olly Murphy trained NO RISK DES FLOS (best priced at 10/3) is unbeaten in his three starts at Wetherby and looks to hold strong claims of maintaining that course record. The seven-year-old won handicap hurdles last season off marks of 125 and 127 before finishing 4th on his chasing debut on his reappearance at Chepstow.
No Risk Des Flos got back to winning ways over this course and distance last time winning by seven lengths off a mark of 127 and is well deserving of a 7lb rise from the handicapper. He is still unexposed over fences and should prove hard to beat under Fergus Gregory.
15:09 Kempton
This looks a competitive 0-145 handicap chase but preference goes to SMARTY WILD (best priced at 14/1) who has shown good form at this course in the past. The Philip Hobbs trained eight-year-old has form figures of 132F over fences at Kempton with his victory coming off a mark of 130 in January 2021. He has since placed off marks of 136 and 131 so he looks competitively handicapped off a mark of 133.
Smarty Wild ran well to finish 2nd at Ascot on his reappearance off this mark and I expect him to run well back at Kempton with up to five places available.
18:00 Wolverhampton
There is no doubt that Victory March will prove hard to beat under a 5lb penalty but I feel that THREE PLATOON (best priced at 16/1) is overpriced in this race. The Rebecca Menzies trained four-year-old has consistent form figures of 31224 at Wolverhampton in his career including a course and distance victory off a mark of 73 in December last year.
Three Platoon has since finished 2nd twice by ¾ length and a short head off marks of 77 and 78 and therefore looks well handicapped off a mark of 69 in this race. Connections have also fitted the gelding with first time cheekpieces in this race and this son of Kingman should outrun his odds back at this track.
