LIVERPOOL KNIGHT made a promising start to his hurdling career when third at Southwell last month and, with improvement a distinct possibility, a first win over the jumps could be on the cards. Balgowan has posted a brace of runner-up efforts in her short hurdling career and merits respect in receipt of weight outside of juvenile company. A bigger threat, however, may emerge from the Paul Nicholls-trained Toothless, who should make his mark based on his form in the French provinces.

Le Tueur travelled strongly when runner-up on stable debut here in November and this ease in distance makes him of interest. Preference, however, is for TWASN'T THE PLAN, who was last seen romping home between the flags in April. The son of Presenting is now under the tutelage of Robbie Llewellyn and could gain a first success under Rules off this career-low mark. In-form pair Colemanstown Lad and Lincoln Lyn may fight it out for the minor spoils.

Canyon City has won twice here from five starts, including a C&D success off a mark 22lb higher, but that was in 2019 and there is no guarantee he can repeat it now. He could still go well, but preference is for TEMPLEHILLS, who returns to hurdles after a poor run over fences at Stratford. He races off 5lb lower over the smaller obstacles plus his jockey's claim of another 5lb, and that may tip the scales in his favour. Hurricane Vichi is another of interest, with the step up in trip likely to aid his cause.

Johnson's Blue has won five of his last six starts but has to shrug off an added 4lb here after his latest success, and there is no guarantee he will remain as effective over this shorter trip, though he has won over the distance before. Plenty Of Time could be an interesting option if she steps up on her second start following wind surgery, but preference is for MADE FOR YOU, who showed improved form to win at Musselburgh last month. He doesn't look badly treated off just 3lb higher here.

Hey Frankie could be an interesting alternative here if the application of cheekpieces and a tongue-tie bring about the hoped for improvement, but that is not guaranteed. JESSIE LIGHTFOOT seems the likelier winner after an impressive success on her first start for the Henry Oliver yard at Southwell where she won by 14 lengths, and an added 10lb from the handicapper may not stop a follow-up victory now. Bolintlea could follow them home having placed on each of her last five starts, though a win still looks unlikely.
