A chance is taken on top-weight ARTHOR who is one of a number of interesting handicap debutants. Fitted with a tongue-tie having shown little on his first two starts, Jimmy Mangan's charge ran a nice race when ninth of 25 in a strong maiden at Naas and Mike O'Connor, a rider with a good record at this venue, claims a valuable 5lb. Further down the weights Man After Midnight is one to note after a better run at Clonmel last time. Dan King is another who is well worth his claim and cheekpieces may sharpen up the daughter of Sholokhov. Ahead Of The Posse, placed in two bumpers, has the ability to get involved off this mark but may prefer better ground. Of the more experienced types, Mastermind was second in a big field at Naas but remains hard to win with and 2m5f course chase winner Indie Belle may find this trip inadequate.

The big stables have the leading candidates and, in receipt of a nice weight allowance, British point-to-point winner KAP D'ATTENTE gets the vote. The daughter of Kapgarde was sold for 160,000 GBP at Cheltenham after readily winning a two-finisher contest on heavy ground at Brocklesby Park in early March. The 15lb Henry de Bromhead's mare gets from Lisnagar Fortune could make the difference. The top-weight was impressive in a Punchestown festival bumper last term and that form has been enhanced in bumpers and over hurdles by third home Firm Footings. Willie Mullins also runs Figaroc, runner-up over hurdles on his only start in France but returning after a huge absence. Cardamon Hill, placed in two point-to-points and runner-up in two bumpers, is race-fit and has good prospects of being in the first three.

FONS VIVUS won a heavy-ground bumper at Cork a little under a year ago and, fitted with cheekpieces for the first time, made a promising handicap hurdle debut when second over C&D last time. She had What An Ocean back in sixth and can confirm the form. Ardera Ru was second of 20 on testing ground at Gowran in November and should go well here for trainer Eoin Doyle who has a fine record at this venue. Lake Chad has won over fences here and was second over hurdles at Clonmel last time. He should give a good account under his in-form rider. Well Polly has twice won over 3m and, although soundly beaten at Limerick during the week, can't be ruled out while Ocojohn has been placed over hurdles and fences here but would prefer better ground.

STATTLER, unbeaten in three starts over fences, is down a mile in trip compared to his win in the National Hunt Chase but won over 2m5f at Fairyhouse on chase debut. He looks to face a stiff task at the weights against Minella Indo but is younger and doesn't have the scars of battle of that rival. Minella Indo hasn't won since landing the Gold Cup in front of empty stands at Cheltenham in 2020. He was pulled up twice last season but, on the flip side, ran well when second to Conflated at Leopardstown and when runner-up to stablemate A Plus Tard when trying to defend his Gold Cup crown. He won first time out around a tight track at Wexford a couple of years ago and is well clear on ratings. Third in the Galway Plate and a Grade 3 winner at Cork in November, El Barra was outclassed in the Drinmore but may be next best ahead of the third Mullins runner Cilaos Emery.

WHISKEYWEALTH was a maiden hurdle winner at Clonmel last season and has garnered plenty of experience over the larger obstacles. Third in three of his seven chase starts, he has bumped into some useful types and his latest run at Clonmel should have left him spot-on for this. He can race handily and won't mind the ground. Peckham Springs is a dual hurdles winner who was a place behind Soloman Lane in a Thurles handicap a fortnight ago. He gets a fair pull at the weights with that rival and can turn around the form at this shorter trip. Soloman Lane was previously third over 2m4f at Naas. He's lightly-raced for his age and open to improvement but this trip might be a bit sharp for him. Joeswayornoway was third over course and distance in October after winning a handicap at Killarney. She's back from a break and may not want the ground as testing as this.

A dual winner over hurdles, BEATING THE ODDS is still looking for the breakthrough over fences but has some very solid placed form in the book. Just over a year ago he was placed at Punchestown and Thurles and, after 10 months off, he again claimed minor honours at those tracks in recent weeks. His latest third at Punchestown was behind this week's Limerick winner Sir Bob. There's little doubt he's capable of success from his mark and coming back in trip may help. Shes Some Doll won over a furlong shorter at this track last term and was running well on her return from a break when tipping up at Naas before Christmas. The daughter of Yeats can go well on her second start for new trainer Tom Gibney. Malinas Glory, placed on four occasions in maiden hurdles, was third in a beginners' chase here over a slightly shorter trip last time. He has a fair chunk of weight to carry. Chasing debutants Tyre Kicker, who gets in off his hurdles mark and has point-to-point experience, and Aodhan May are worth noting in the market.
