MOHATU has progressed with each start to date and got off the mark here at the beginning of the month when stepping up to a mile for the first time. The manner in which he finished his race off suggested an extra couple of furlongs may bring about further improvement and the son of Roaring Lion could take advantage of his opening handicap mark. Mighty River didn't quite get home over a furlong further at Kempton last month, but the drop back in trip is likely to see him in the mix. Tabaretta and Khal also have viable claims.

TODDAYS THE DAY has shown some promise on his three starts to date, most notably on his second outing at Wolverhampton in November, and the step up to a mile on handicap debut is likely to see him progress. Fly The Nest has been in fine fettle on his most recent all-weather efforts and commands respect once again, while others to note include Ballybaymoonshiner, who was runner-up over C&D last time and now sports a first-time visor, and Ower Starlight.

Star Guest boasts two solid efforts having finished runner-up on both starts to date, including here over a furlong shorter on debut to a stable companion, but a chance is taken on her stable companion, SPRING PROMISE. A half-sister to Platinum Jubilee winner Naval Crown, the daughter of Lope De Vega may prove capable of defying her lack of experience. Queens Resolve and Vasilissa appeal most of the remainder.

Denied by a fairly narrow margin on his most recent run over C&D, it could pay to side with the Karl Burke-trained SILKY WILKIE. Although he steps up in class for this contest, he has only been raised by 1lb for the aforementioned run and that looks unlikely to stop him having a say in proceedings. Street Kid drops in trip following a creditable fourth at Wolverhampton last month and is feared ahead of Tolstoy.

A fairly weak contest in which a chance can be taken with the Julia Feilden-trained ARPINA. The daughter of Starspangledbanner kept on well for second on her most recent run over 1m at Chelmsford earlier this month and the nature of that outing left the impression a stiffer stamina test would suit, so she should not be taken lightly back in this sphere. Princess Nieve remains unexposed and open to improvement, while Three Dons is another to note.

ICONICDAAY is less exposed than most and, having run well above market expectations when finishing third, in first-time cheekpieces, at Wolverhampton last month, she has a live chance of getting off the mark if running to the same sort of level here. Toplight has the best theoretical chance at the weights and is respected accordingly, while Hot Hot Hot and Elf Rising also need to be taken seriously judged on their proximity to each other in recent encounters.

In-form trainer Tony Carroll plays a strong hand with top weight Night Traveller highly respected after winning over a mile at Chelmsford last week and he is still potentially well treated, despite a 7lb higher mark. However, his stablemate BEAU GESTE, who has won when fresh before now, should not be underestimated on these terms and looks worth a speculative punt in a wide-open contest. Therehegoes, Luxy Lou and Navy Drums all have something to recommend them and are others to consider.
