Tuesday Racing Tips from Steve Ryder

The Paul Gilligan trained BUDDY ONE (best priced at 5/2) won on his handicap debut last time at Fairyhouse and he should prove hard to beat under a 7lb penalty. The six-year-old was well beaten in three maiden hurdles when sent off 100/1, 150/1 and 250/1 before making a winning handicap debut off a mark of 102 last time when well supported into 7/1.

Buddy One travelled strongly throughout the race before easing clear by 3 ¼ lengths at the finish on Saturday. The handicapper raised him 9lbs for that victory but he instead runs here under a 7lb penalty meaning that he runs here 2lbs “well in” at the weights. Jack Gilligan once again claims 7lbs and I expect him to hold strong claims of following up.

Castle Rushen will no doubt prove popular with punters in this race but I prefer the chances of FRENCH PARADOXE (best priced at 3/1) who would have completed a hat-trick of wins over fences last time if he hadn’t have fallen at the final fence. The eight-year-old had previously won at Doncaster on his final start last season before making a winning reappearance at Wetherby by 3 ¼ lengths off a mark of 117.

French Paradoxe was six lengths clear at the last at Ffos Las last month when falling and despite the handicapper raising him 7lbs, he should still prove hard to beat in this race under Gavin Sheehan.

This looks a weak 80-95 handicap hurdle and I think it is worth taking a chance on LOVELY REACTION (best priced at 7/2) on his handicap debut. The Thomas Mullins trained five-year-old has shown very little in his three career starts to date but starts off life in handicaps off a lowly opening mark of 87. He has finished beaten 52 lengths, 42 lengths and 55 lengths when sent off 40/1, 100/1 and 50/1 but I expect to see a dramatic improvement in form now he is in handicaps as so many of these JP McManus trained horses do.

Aidan Kelly takes off a handy 4lbs off Lovely Reaction and I expect him to be well supported in the market for this handicap debut.
