Yukon wasn't disgraced when finishing third in a similar contest at Sedgefield in November, but he may prove vulnerable shouldering a penalty once more. SLEEPING SATELLITE shaped better than the bare form when last seen weakening into sixth on his hurdling debut at Haydock, Donald McCain's inmate is entitled to improve with that experience under his belt and he could gain a first success in this discipline. Bertie's Wish has questions to answer after a heavy defeat at Leicester in December and the biggest threat may emerge from the lightly-raced Dunnet Head.
Prediction : 1st Sleeping Satellite 2nd Dunnet Head 3rd Yukon

Escapeandevade is sure to prove popular after making all to romp home by 15 lengths at Ayr last month and a 7lb rise for that success doesn't look insurmountable. However, a chance is taken on the Donald McCain-trained WORD HAS IT, who tries chasing for the second time after falling at the first on his previous attempt last season. He's been far from disgraced in recent runs over hurdles and looks fairly treated if putting it all together. The keen-pulling Captain Quint is preferred over One Fine Man on this drop to 2m.
Prediction : 1st Word Has It 2nd Escapeandevade 3rd Captain Quint

POETIC MUSIC lost little in defeat when finding only a useful mare in She's A Saint too good over 2m at Ffos Las on New Year's Eve and she should take all the beating if seeing out this longer step. Bents Hollow is rated 9lb inferior to the selection and although she races off the same weight, the Musselburgh winner looks the chief danger. Ebonello will need to put her latest disappointment at Plumpton behind her, but she was previously looking progressive.
Prediction : 1st Poetic Music 2nd Bents Hollow 3rd Ebonello

With just the four heading to post for this contest, a chance can be taken with the grade-dropping MAID O'MALLEY. She has been well beaten in Listed territory on her last two outings and should not be taken lightly at this level, but La Renommee steps up in class following a respectable second over an extended 2m3f at Wetherby last month and can give the selection plenty to think about. Haute Estime completes the shortlist back over fences.
Prediction : 1st Maid OMalley 2nd La Renommee 3rd Haute Estime

Clear White Light was a game winner on his most recent outing over an extended 2m3f at Doncaster and has to enter calculations with the talented Jack Hogan's 5lb claim negating much of the seven-year-old's 7lb rise for that success. However, MALPAS could benefit from a shorter stamina test having lost second over an extended 2m2f last time out and shades the vote. Quick Sharpener also warrants a market check on his handicap bow.
Prediction : 1st Malpas 2nd Clear White Light 3rd Quick Sharpener

16:15 Carlisle

To The Limit was a game winner of a four-runner affair over slightly shorter at Kelso last month, but a 5lb rise in the ratings, coupled with the fact he is racing from 2lb out the handicap, leaves him with no margin for error and preference is for PATIENT OWNER. Henry Oliver's gelding has seen the form of his good second over 3m at Uttoxeter on New Year's Eve boosted by the third and fourth both scoring since and although he has gone up 2lb for that, he is entitled to come on plenty for that chasing debut. Aire Valley Lad failed to fire when favourite for a competitive 3m event at Wetherby latest, but has claims on his victory over that same C&D off 4lb lower the time before.
Prediction : 1st Patient Owner 2nd To The Limit 3rd Aire Valley Lad

Donald McCain won this contest with a newcomer 12 months ago and he bids to repeat the dose with Moonlit Park, who is related to plenty of winners and she can give a good account first time out. However, slight preference is for the experience of JUDICIAL REVIEW, who changed hands for 20,000 euros following a couple of point-to-point runs and justified strong market support to win with ease on his debut under Rules at Sedgefield in December. He has plenty of potential and may be up to defying his winner's penalty, although Bertie's Ballet and Bullets Hill also aim to do just that and must be respected.
Prediction : 1st Judicial Review 2nd Moonlit Park 3rd Berties Ballet
