Following a 5/2 winner yesterday, Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's action.
13:45 Ayr
This looks a weak 0-100 mares’ handicap hurdle and it will be disappointing if the Philip Kirby trained LONE STAR (best priced at 11/8) couldn’t get back to winning ways. The six-year-old won in impressive style on her penultimate start at Ayr when victorious by 4 ¾ lengths under Joe Williamson off a mark of 85.
The handicapper raised Lone Star 7lbs for that win and she ran well off a mark of 92 to finish 2nd by a length at Market Rasen a week ago. She runs here off the same mark and I expect her to prove hard to beat with Williamson once again claiming 5lbs.
14:00 Lingfield
The Chris Gordon yard are currently in fantastic form with seven winners from their last 15 runners (47% strike rate) and STANLEY PINCOMBE (best priced at 3/1) can hopefully improve that impressive recent strike rate. The six-year-old won a handicap hurdle last season off a mark of 101 before finishing 3rd on his first two starts this season off marks of 104 and 101 over fences.
Stanley Pincombe was disappointing last time prior to running out at the third last fence but the handicapper has dropped him 3lbs as a result which makes him well handicapped on his form last season. Connections have fitted him with first time cheekpieces in this race and I expect him to bounce back to form in this race.
13:55 Ayr
This looks a competitive 0-115 handicap hurdle but HOGANVILLE (best priced at 6/1) looks hard to keep out of the frame with four places available in this race. The George Bewley trained six-year-old won his first three starts for this yard since joining from Paul Nolan where he improved from a mark of 96 up to a mark of 112.
Hoganville disappointed when only 3rd last time at Wetherby but that was on soft ground and he will be much better suited by this return to a faster surface. 7lb claimer Conor Rabbitt has a good relationship with the horse and I expect him to run well with four places on offer.
