UK Horse Racing Tips: Wincanton

WHAT A STEAL was beaten a long way at Ludlow on his latest start but cutting back in distance will likely be a huge positive for the six-year-old. He may just have enough to see off Earth Cry, who was unbeaten in bumpers before a disappointing effort on his hurdles bow at Ludlow. Tedwin Hills and Universal Secret can battle it out for third place.

FLIC OU VOYOU struggled in Grade 3 company when last seen at Wetherby in October but, given a long break since, this appeals as an ideal opportunity to get back to winning ways. The son of Kapgarde loves it around here and it will take a big performance from the likes of Kauto The King, who enjoys good ground, and Flagrant Delitiep to topple him.

A small but select field for this valuable Grade 2 event, with three of the four runners reopposing after meeting in the Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham last month. FIRST STREET did best on that occasion and he can do so again here, with the drop back in trip expected to suit, as well as the forecast good ground. His second in last year's County Hurdle still appeals as very strong form and he edges the vote over Knappers Hill, who scooted around here when winning the Elite Hurdle in November. Greatwood winner I Like To Move It is not to be underestimated either.

Despite having to shoulder top-weight in this contest, FANTASTIKAS could be worth taking a chance on eased in grade following a disappointing run in the Welsh Grand National in December. He has been dropped 6lb in the ratings since that run and would be dangerous to rule out, but Ede'iffs Elton has had wind surgery since finishing fourth over 2m4f at this track in December and should not be underestimated. Sam Barton also warrants respect.

It is hard to oppose SEELOTMOREBUSINESS, who made a pleasing stable debut for Harry Derham when bolting up after a long layoff over an extended 2m4f at Huntingdon on Boxing Day. A 11lb raised mark looks unlikely to stop him here, but Forever William was a game winner at Taunton on his most recent run and can give the selection plenty to think about. Jet Of Magic finished a far from disgraced third behind Green Book in a Grade 3 contest at Sandown earlier this month and can also make his presence felt.

BEYOND REDEMPTION was an impressive seven-length winner over C&D on his debut for these connections last month and even an 11lb rise for that success may not be enough to stop him here. Great D'Ange disappointed last time but is a player based on his previous victory at Huntingdon, while Ballinslea Bridge and Butterwick Brook are the pick of the remainder.

HITITI was not beaten far into fourth on his return to hurdles at Exeter recently and he could be hard to stop if reproducing that level of form here. Hard Frost was denied by a neck on his most recent outing at Fontwell and is an obvious threat to the selection. The shortlist is completed by William Ewart, De Wanted Warrior and Copshill Lad.
