Despite going unbacked French recruit IN EXCELSIS DEO made an impressive start under Rules winning by 5 and a half lengths at Hereford when going chasing for the first time. There were fences omitted due to the low sun but he still showed a decent engine to pull away from a pretty good field the way he did. He was well backed on handicap debut at Warwick last month but hit one early and was eventually pulled up. He has been given a bit of time yet and it is obviously still very early days with him. He can bounce back here and it looks a good opportunity to get back on track. Jetoile ran well when beaten just a length behind Wheelbahri at Kelso but failed to back that up at Wetherby last time so has a bit to prove to win this. Sail Away is probably a greater danger as he got his head in front in a similar contest at Warwick and has gone well fresh in the past.

Hard to knock recent form figures of 212 from BEAT BOX and running off the same mark as last time he looks to have found another good opportunity to get his head in front. He handles soft ground well and under likely patient tactics once more he should be going close under 5lb claimer Edward Austin. Crack Du Ninian ran much better after a tough patch to finish second at Newcastle last month and if building on that could be one of the main dangers. Serious Ego is being backed this morning but he hasn’t won for over 2 years now and he didn’t exactly shape as though his turn was near at this track last month. Big Blue Moon hasn’t shown a great deal but could easily improve now handicapping and it will be interesting to see what the market makes of him nearer post time. Brian’s Jet was pulled up last time and needs a tongue strap to help him bounce back on handicap debut.
