Given we have only seen him twice and he is a 7yo now THE CARPENTER clearly hasn’t been the easiest to train but I was impressed with his win at Exeter last month. He very much learnt on the job and he did all his best work in the closing stages to get the better of the well backed Off To A Flyer. That horse has let the form down since albeit pulling up in tough company at Sandown but he is sure to improve again up in trip here and the best should still be to come. Iliko D’olivate impressed opening his account on debut for this yard at Taunton and then bumped into Chasing Fire at Sandown. He was only fourth at Ascot but this is easier and on the balance of his form he looks the danger. Future Investment did well on the Flat and he ran well when second to Knowsley Road at Chepstow. If getting back to that form he could also get competitive.

Another big field which we like to see and RING OF BEARA could be worth backing to go one better than at Doncaster 6 weeks ago. That was a career best over hurdles and now handicapping off what looks a lenient mark with this track likely to suit he looks sure to run a big race. It has been paying to race prominently in recent days with the ground sticky and he should go forward so that should prove a positive as well. Bringbackmemories was second at Limerick but was beaten 28 lengths and needs to leave that form behind to get competitive here. Pretending is a good looking filly and I thought she ran well again when second to Ravenscar at Doncaster. If she can improve again here then she might be the biggest danger to the selection. Of the rest The Churchill Lad would also have to be noted but he needs to learn to settle better.
