Connections would have been frustrated to see NOBLE SAVAGE lose his race in the stewards room here at the start of the month. He did cause interference but whether it was enough to make the difference is another question. Compensation may well await here though as he runs off just a 3lb higher mark and the form looks solid with Just Go For It having run well since. Mount South has had quite a few chances already and unseated at the very first flight at Fontwell last time. He did shape quite well on handicap debut prior to that though and does look the biggest danger to the selection but I wouldn’t have that much between them in the betting. West Orchard is an awkward type but could be capable if everything drops right. He ran out at Fontwell and then pulled up at Exeter so has enough to prove however you break it down.
18:30 Wolverhampton
Despite only finishing fourth on debut I make SMOKY MOUNTAIN a strong play to open his account at Wolverhampton on Monday night. This son of Frankel showed promise without threatening to finish fourth at Southwell last month and looks sure to improve from that initial experience. The winner Odin Owns You All is a progressive type and I think the form will work out nicely in time. The speed figure the selection clocked even in defeat was better than either effort of Flame Spirit which I think is notable. The latter does look the danger having been denied a run on debut at Haydock and then shaping as though he needed the run when only fifth over track and trip last time. Girl Racer makes her debut for William Haggas and is bred to be pretty useful so it will be interesting to see what the market makes of her first time out here.
