Following two winners and a place yesterday, Steve Ryder is back with two tips from today's action.
14:50 Limerick
The Terence O’Brien trained Whiskeywealth (best priced at 13/8) has won his previous two races over fences and he looks to hold strong claims in this race off a 12lb lower mark over hurdles. The six-year-old won a novice chase at Tramore by 15 lengths on his final start for Eoghan O’Grady before winning a novice handicap chase at Clonmel last time by 2 ¼ lengths off a mark of 116.
The handicapper has raised Whiskeywealth 8lbs for that victory up to a mark of 124 over fences but he instead runs here over hurdles off a mark of 112. All of his rivals are struggling for recent form and I expect him to prove hard to beat in this race.
16:45 Carlisle
Despite racing 4lbs out of the handicap, I am willing to take a chance on the Sam England trained Elleon (best priced at 10/1) who has finished runner-up on his previous four starts. He was beaten a short head at Sedgefield odd a mark of 81 before finishing only ½ length behind My Bad Lucy at Doncaster off the same mark.
Elleon finished 2nd at both Market Rasen and Doncaster off a mark of 85 and although in theory running off a mark of 89 in this race, connections now fit him with first time cheekpieces which should make the job of Jonathan England easier. Bookmakers are offering up to four places on the race and I feel like looks overpriced at a double figure price.
