UK Horse Racing Tips: Exeter

Pedley Wood lost little in defeat when staying on into second on his handicap debut over an extended 2m5f at Hereford last month and isn't taken lightly racing off the same mark. This drop in trip, however, may leave him vulnerable to a rival with more speed and PILSDON PEN is the one. The six-year-old's stamina appeared stretched by the longer distance when weakening into third at Warwick recently and he makes most appeal. Last-time-out winner Kepagge completes the shortlist.

VICTTORINO had some smart form when racing in France, albeit mainly over fences, and he may take some stopping at this lower level now with Venetia Williams. Buckhorn Rocco was unable to justify cramped odds when turned over here last month, but he's not discounted over this longer distance. Yggdrasil has plenty of experience over fences and hurdles to draw on and rates as best of the remainder.

Stanley Stanley's chase/stable debut when fourth at Wetherby in January has worked out better than expected and she may have more to offer now trying 3m for the first time. RIVER TYNE, however, ran a subsequent wide-margin winner close at Plumpton earlier in the month and Nick Gifford's mare rates a more solid proposition. Merry Mistress has undergone a wind operation since finishing fourth at Ludlow and is another to note.

COOLVALLA heads the shortlist despite having endured a hard race in the National Hunt Challenge Cup at Cheltenham. Assuming this doesn't come around too soon, the seven-year-old looks more attuned to this level and he can get back to winning ways. Revels Hill drops from a premier handicap and has to be respected, while Young Bull is a lightly-raced nine-year-old and may improve for first-time cheekpieces.

VIROFLAY has won three of his four point-to-points and this former Paul Nicholls inmate looks a force to be reckoned with at this level. This will be his first attempt over regulation fences but there are solid grounds to expect he'll rise to the challenge. Moratorium faces a much easier task than the one he was set at Cheltenham nine days ago and he goes on the shortlist based on previous exploits, while Broadclyst looks next best.

THANK YOU MA'AM appeals on pedigree and, having shown an aptitude for racing with a good second at Bangor's point-to-point course on his debut a fortnight ago, the quick reappearance suggests he could be worth chancing. Vinnie Sparkles won between the flags at Dunsmore in November and is respected on his Rules/stable debut, while support in the betting market for Clover All Over or Highway Hero could also be worth noting.
