Following a 150/1 place yesterday, Steve Ryder is back with two tips from today's action.
14:25 Doncaster
The Charlie Johnston trained The Gatekeeper (best priced at 9/1) was a winner for us last month at Newcastle and he should hold strong claims under a 5lb penalty in this race. The four-year-old gelding had been off the track 625 days since running in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot but he put in an impressive performance to win by 2 lengths at Newcastle under Andrea Atzeni.
That was the first time The Gatekeeper had run over further than 6f in his career and given how well he stayed on over the 7f that day, he should be well suited by this step up in trip to a mile. The handicapper has raised him 7lbs for that success but he instead runs here under a 5lb penalty meaning he is 2lbs “well in” at the weights and he looks worth taking a chance on in this race.

This looks a typically competitive renewal of the Lincoln Handicap but preference goes to Atrium (best priced at 10/1) who had a progressive profile at the end of last season. The Charlie Fellowes trained gelding won a handicap at Newbury on his penultimate start by 1 ¼ lengths off a mark of 92 before winning over this course and distance off a mark of 96 on his final start last season.
Atrium was given a confident ride by William Buick that day and he won with a lot more to spare than the winning margin of ½ length suggests. The handicapper has raised him 4lbs for that victory which seems very lenient and he should relish these conditions with up to seven places on offer.
