Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's action.
14:00 Leopardstown
Persian Jewel is an interesting newcomer but preference instead goes to Bold As Love (best priced at 3/1) who finished 2nd behind Tarawa on her debut last season. The Donnacha O’Brien trained daughter of Deep Impact finished 2nd at this course over 7f on her debut despite being sent off a relatively unfancied 16/1.
Bold As Love finished ahead of the more experienced Ballydoyle duo Lambada and High Chieftess that day and she should appreciate this step up to a mile. She sets the standard on form over the likes of Toistiun, Warm Heart and Curvature and I expect her to get off the mark at the second attempt.
15:00 Ascot
There will prove a lot of horses rated higher in the future than their current marks and I am willing to take a chance on Blueking D’Oroux (best priced at 25/1). The four-year-old was sent off 6/4 favourite in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham on his debut before finishing a beaten favourite once again at Taunton in December. Both of those runs aren’t his true running in comparison to the form shown in France last season and it is interesting that Paul Nicholls has given him a wind operation.
Blueking D’Oroux makes his handicap debut off an opening mark of 127 and he should run well off top weight with Angus Cheleda claiming 5lbs and up to five places available.
17:40 Doncaster
The Tony Coyle trained Ey Up It’s Maggie (best priced at 11/4) won her last race in October 2021 off a mark of 85 and she races here off an 8lb lower mark. That victory came in a Class 3 0-90 handicap on soft ground and she now drops into a Class 5 0-75 handicap for the first time in her career. All of her three victories have come on a softer surface so she should handle conditions in this race.
The booking of Billy Loughnane claiming 5lbs is a huge positive and Ey Up It’s Maggie should be able to claim her fourth career victory.
