There are a few interesting handicap debutants in this race but preference goes to the top weight Ten Bob Note (best priced at 8/1). The Declan Carroll trained three-year-old finished well beaten in three maiden/novice races last season over a mile, 1m1f and 1m2f when sent off 80/1, 50/1 and 150/1 but he should now be a different proposition off an opening mark of 56.

Connections have gelded Ten Bob Note since his previous run in November and he also now steps up in trip to 1m4f on his handicap debut. Bookmakers are offering four places on this race and I expect to see a much improved performance from him in this race.

The Harry Fry trained Monjules (best priced at 6/5) has won three of his previous four starts for new connections including his previous two over this course and distance. The five-year-old won easily by six lengths on his stable debut at Sedgefield in December before disappointing at Huntington on his next start over a trip too far. Monjules bounced back with a victory over this course and distance off a mark of 104 before following up off a 4lb higher mark last time.

The handicapper has raised Monjules 6lbs for his latest success which is fair and connections have now booked Ben Bromley to take off a handy 5lbs in this race. The early defection of Gardener will make his task easier and I expect him to complete a course and distance hat-trick.

Monjules - 1pt @ 6/5

A lot of this 0-60 handicap field are struggling for recent form but that is not the case for Fen Tiger (best priced at 5/2) who has recent form figures of 122121. The Julia Feilden trained five-year-old won three times last year off marks of 47, 51 and 54 and the gelding should prove hard to beat if fit enough following a 162 day break.

Fen Tiger returns now off a mark of 59 but we know that he will handle this softer surface and connections have booked Freddie Larson (who is 2/2 on the horse) for the ride to take off 3lbs.
