Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's action, including a 50/1.
13:55 Bellewstown
The soft to heavy ground at Bellewstown is an unknown for many but I am willing to take a chance on SECRET SAUCE (best priced at 11/2) on his handicap debut. The Fozzy Stack trained three-year-old has finished well beaten in all of his three starts to date but now makes his handicap debut off a lowly mark of 57. Since his last run in November he has been gelded and he also goes up in trip from 7f up to a mile for the first time.
Connections have also decided to fit Secret Sauce with first time cheekpieces for this race and I expect him to put in a much improved performance in this race if handling the ground.
15:40 Bellewstown
TAWAAZON (best priced at 6/4) was just denied a hat-trick a week ago at Navan but he should prove hard to beat from 1lb “well in” at the weights. The James McAuley trained five-year-old won by two lengths at Dundalk on his stable debut at Dundalk over 6f before following up by four lengths over 5f at the same venue off a mark of 73. The handicapper has raised the gelding 12lbs up to a mark of 85 on the AW but he runs here off a mark of 70 on turf.
Tawaazon was only beaten ¾ length by a race-fit rival last time at Navan off a mark of 67 but the pair pulled 3 ¼ of the third so he is deserving of a 4lb rise from the handicapper. Colin Keane has developed a good relationship with the horse and I expect him to prove hard to beat.
16:15 Bellewstown
This looks like a weak 47-65 handicap and I am willing to take a chance on the bottom weight FLAGGY LANE (best priced at 50/1) at a wild price. The P J F Murphy trained four-year-old has finished well beaten on his first three starts to date over 1m2f and a mile at Dundalk when beaten 29 lengths, 13 ½ lengths and 26 lengths at prices of 25/1, 100/1 and 150/1.
Flaggy Lane now makes his handicap debut off an opening mark of 47 and connections now fit him with first time cheekpieces and up him in trip to 1m6½f for this race. The stable had a handicap winner at Leopardstown yesterday at 20/1 so they are in form and he looks overpriced with five places on offer.
