Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's action.
14:50 Beverley
This looks a weak 0-90 handicap and a chance is taken on Sound Reason (best priced at 17/2) who can hopefully bounce back to form following a wind operation. The Kevin Ryan trained five-year-old has won four times in his career including off a mark of 81 at Haydock in May 2022. He has slightly disappointed since but that has meant that he has dropped back down from a mark of 86 to 81.
Connections have given Sound Reason a wind operation since his last run in October and hopefully he can bounce back to form off this mark.
15:50 Cheltenham
Captain Cattistock is respected in his bid for a repeat victory in this race but I am willing to take a chance on the outsider of the field Chambard (best priced at 20/1). The Venetia Williams trained eleven-year-old defied odds of 40/1 to win the Kim Muir Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last year off a mark of 134 and he is now only rated 3lbs higher in this race following three below par efforts so far this season.
Lucy Turner has a good relationship with Chambard and takes off a handy 5lbs and he looks worth taking a chance on in this race.
17:10 Beverley
Horses from the George Boughey stable often improve on their handicap debut and hopefully that will be the case for Abbadia (best priced at 11/4). The three-year-old has run with credit on her first three starts so far finishing 5th, 6th and 4th and Kempton, Lingfield and Chelmsford respectively. The handicapper has given her an opening mark of 69 and that could seriously underestimate the daughter of Mastercraftsman.
Connections have fitted Abbadia with first time cheekpieces for this race which will hopefully make the job of Connor Planas easier and I expect her to get off the mark in this race.
