The Keith Dalgleish trained VENTURA FLAME (best priced at 11/4) has a good record at Beverley including when winning this race in 2021. The six-year-old mare has form figures of 7133122 at the track with her victories coming in this race two years ago off a mark of 69 and later that year off a mark of 74.

Ventura Flame was struggling for form at the end of last season but she finished 2nd on her reappearance over this course and distance off a mark of 74 in a Class 3 0-90 handicap. She now drops in class to a Class 4 0-80 handicap and she should prove hard to beat with a repeat effort.

This looks a competitive 0-80 handicap but preference goes to the Rebecca Menzies trained DOGGED (best priced at 7/2) who beat the reopposing Hortzadar at Ripon a week ago. The six-year-old was winning for only the second time in his career that day but he was always holding the runner-up at the finish.

The handicapper has raised Dogged 4lbs for that victory but he can instead run here off his previous mark of 61 meaning that he is 4lbs “well in” at the weights. Elle-may Croot retains the ride and can claim her full 7lb allowance in this race and he should prove hard to beat off the same mark.

The John Quinn trained ONE MORE DREAM (best priced at 5/2) has been in consistent form on the AW so far in 2023 and he should hold strong claims of making it 3/3 over this course and distance. The four-year-old won off a mark of 65 in November over this course and distance before winning at Newcastle in March off a mark of 70.

One More Dream was only beaten a short head at Southwell off a mark of 71 on his penultimate start before making it 2/2 over this course and distance last time with a 1 ¾ length success two weeks ago. He faces here off a 5lb higher mark but Harry Russell has been booked to take off a hadny 3lbs and I expect him to prove hard to beat from Stall 3.
