Plenty of well bred horses going to post for this but I liked that debut run from COVERT LEGEND and if he improves as hoped then he could be the answer. The penny seemed to be dropping at Kempton and he was staying on well but he was hampered and that cost him any chance. He will know a lot more this time around and could prove up to the task. Umberto went close on debut and then bumped into another nice horse in Maid In Kentucky at Lingfield so with more to come looks the danger but understandably is well found in the market. Roaring Lion colt Embesto cost 130,000 guineas as a yearling and looks the part on paper so he is the most interesting of the debutants. Tajdif was slowly into stride on debut and looked a bit tricky so will need to take a sizeable step forward to get involved in a maiden as good as this.

Charlie Hills has made a very good start to the season operating at a near 30% strike rate in the past fortnight and MUTAANY looks a sprinter on the upgrade. He caught the eye going close on return and then went down just half a length to Kerdos at Haydock. He improved again to win at Brighton on final start as a 2yo and with further progress a near certainty having been gelded he could easily follow up on return here. Wen Moon showed a good attitude to prevail at Pontefract on return and he could have more to come so he is respected. Open Market has knocked on the door the last twice and has been left off the same mark so on that basis she would have to enter calculations as well. I still think she’ll need more to win this though. Fox Master won on debut but then looked a little one paced last time. It’s still early days for him though of course.
