Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's action.
14:45 Salisbury
This looks a competitive 0-70 handicap but the horse I feel is currently overpriced is the Eve Johnson Houghton trained Michaels Choice (best priced at 9/1). The seven-year-old has both of his starts at Salisbury with both coming over this course and distance last year off marks of 66 (won by 2 ¾ lengths) and 70 (won by a length).
Michaels Choice was running well on the AW at the end of the year with close defeats at Kempton (head) and Lingfield (1 ¼ lengths) off marks of 72 and 73 before slightly disappointing at Nottingham and Wolverhampton. As a result he has dropped back down to a mark of 70 (his last winning mark) and he should run well with four places on offer.
15:50 Salisbury
This looks a weak 0-60 handicap and a chance is taken on the Archie Watson trained Seahrena (best priced at 16/1) on her handicap debut. The three-year-old ran well on her first two starts at Newcastle and Chelmsford to finish beaten only 4 ½ lengths and 5 ¾ lengths before disappointing over a shorter trip at Wolverhampton last time when sent off 125/1.
The handicapper has given Seahrena an opening handicap mark of 61 which means she sneaks into this Class 6 handicap off top weight and it is interesting that she is fitted with first time blinkers for her handicap debut. This step back up in trip to 1m2f should suit her and the booking of Taylor Fisher to take off 5lbs is also a positive.
16:55 Salisbury
Monjules (best priced at 9/4) has improved for new connections since joining Harry Fry and he should be able to take advantage of a lowly mark on the flat. The five-year-old joined Harry Fry from John Norton with a rating of 98 over hurdles but following three wins and a second he is now rated 115.
Monjules runs for the first time on the flat since February 2021 and he should hold strong claims off a mark of 57. The in-form Kevin Stott is a good booking and I expect him to prove hard to beat.
