Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's action.
14:05 Newbury
This looks a competitive 0-88 handicap but preference goes to Mustazeed (best priced at 5/1) who won on his stable debut for Harry Eustace last time. The five-year-old had been running consistently well when trained by Chris Wall with his final start resulting in a close 2nd at Doncaster off a mark of 76.
Mustazeed won a 15 runner course and distance handicap by ¾ length last time off a mark of 77 where he had the reopposing Tuxedo Junction back in third. The handicapper has raised him 6lbs for that victory which is fair as he didn’t get the clearest run through the race and I expect him to run well once again with up to six places on offer.
15:25 Newmarket
The Michael Bell trained Adjuvant (best priced at 9/4) ran well over this course and distance on his reappearance and he should hold strong claims off the same mark. The four-year-old won on the July course last season over 1m4f before running well over this trip of 16mf on his final three starts last season.
Adjuvent finished 2nd by a neck behind HMS President on 1000 Guineas Day here in a Class 2 handicap and he now drops in class into this Class 3 0-95 handicap. The handicapper has raised the gelding 2lbs for that run but he instead runs here off his previous mark so he is 2lbs “well in” at the weights and I expect him to prove hard to beat under Harry Burns.

There are lots of horses in this 0-70 handicap that are open to improvement but the one who I feel is overpriced is House Of Dragons (best priced at 50/1). The three-year-old ran well on in maiden/novice company on his three starts for Dominic French Davis including on his final start last season when 4th beaten only 3 ¾ lengths at Wolverhampton when sent off 40/1.
House Of Dragons finished only 1 ½ lengths behind Raintown that day who has gone on to win his next three starts and is now rated 79 and just in front of Dragonball Prince who is rated 76 having finished down the field at Chester on his reappearance. House Of Dragons makes his handicap debut off a mark of 67 which looks lenient and hopefully he can make a winning stable debut for Seamus Durack.
