The Lisa Williamson trained Red Walls (best priced at 5/1) is a three-time course and distance winner (with a further four 2nds) and he should hold strong claims off a 2lb lower mark than his previous success. The five-year-old won off marks of 61, 60 and 59 last year and has now dropped down to a mark of 57.

Red Walls was only beaten 1 ¾ lengths at Chelmsford earlier this month off a mark of 57 and connections now fit him with a first time visor. Hopefully that will spark a small amount of improvement and he can get back to winning ways in this race.

This looks a weak 0-55 handicap and I am willing to take a chance on Panning For Gold (best priced at 15/2) on his handicap debut. The David Simcock trained three-year-old has shown very little in his three career starts to date but I expect to see a dramatic improvement now switched to handicaps in this race.

Panning For Gold has been gelded following his last run in January and connections will be disappointed if he didn’t prove better than an opening mark of 54. Jamie Spencer will no doubt drop him in from Stall 11 and hopefully he can stay on well and make a winning handicap debut following a 141 day break.

Reflectionist (best priced at 9/4) put in a much improved performance on his stable debut for Gavin Cromwell earlier this month and he should prove hard to beat despite a 3lb higher mark. The six-year-old was previously trained by David Dunne where he struggled both over hurdles and on the flat but he benefitted from the stable switch and the application of a hood to finish 2nd by ½ length off a mark of 82.

The handicapper has raised Reflectionist 3lbs which is fair and he should prove hard to beat off only a 3lbs higher mark with Sean Flanagan retaining the ride.
