Friday Racing Tips from Steve Ryder

This looks a competitive 0-75 handicap but preference goes to REDREDROBIN (best priced at 6/1) who runs here from 4lbs well in at the weights. The Malcolm Saunders trained six-year-old ended last season in good form with a victory at Chepstow in August before running well to finish 4th beaten only 3 lengths at Kempton on his reappearance off a mark of 59.

Redredrobin won an apprentice handicap at Salisbury a week ago off a mark of 58 by ½ length and he runs here unpenalised for that success. The handicapper has raised him 4lbs for that success but he instead gets to run here off his previous mark meaning that he is 4lbs “well in” at the weights for this race. Josephine Gordon takes over on board and he should run well with up to four places available. 

Mucky Mulconry is respected under a 6lb penalty for his success at Wolverhampton yesterday but I am willing to take a chance on MAYZ (best priced at 20/1) on her handicap debut. The Mayson filly showed very little on her first three starts for John Spearing but the £19,000 yearling purchase can hopefully show improvement now switched to handicaps. 

Mayz has since joined John Gallagher following her final qualifying run in November and makes her handicap debut off a lowly opening mark of 54. Hopefully she has improved following 195 days off the track and she should outrun her odds with Rhian Ingram taking off a further 3lbs.

The David Evans trained MABRE (best priced at 3/1) has won twice this year so far since the application of blinkers and he can hopefully follow up his recent success under Olivia Tubb. The six-year-old won most recently at Newbury a week ago off a mark of 67 in an apprentice handicap when she stayed on well over the mile trip to win by 1 ¼ lengths. 

The handicapper has raised Mabre 3lbs for that success but he instead runs here off his previous mark of 67 meaning that he is 3lbs “well in” at the weights and that should mean that he is hard to beat in this race if coping with the faster ground.
