UK Horse Racing Tips: Roscommon

SPANISH FLAME caught the eye on debut at Leopardstown and gets the vote. The Ger Lyons-trained colt was well-backed in that 14-runner maiden and didn't enjoy the clearest of passages before coming home strongly in the closing stages. He looks sure to benefit from that experience. There was also plenty to like about the debut of High Morale over C&D last week. The son of National Defense showed signs of greenness before keeping on into third behind Port Louis and is likely to progress with that run under his belt. Stablemate Oligopoly is one to note in the market, while Thia has shown pace on both starts and can't be lightly discounted.

NOT EVEN MAYBE has shown promise on a couple of occasions this year notably when going down narrowly to Timeless Piece over a mile at Gowran, with the pair drawing clear of the remainder. The selection may have been unsuited by the testing ground when returning to Gowran last time. Alfarida hails from a yard in decent form and she returns to turf after a consistent spell at Dundalk over the winter. The daughter of Elzaam was only headed close home by Storm Eric on her latest start and is preferred to Cherry Pink, who was also placed on the all-weather earlier this year. Distillate and Master Garvey are others to consider.

CAPUCHINERO won twice at Dundalk last winter, taking a maiden and a claimer, and ran a cracker when reverting to the turf in a 25-runner handicap at Cork. The Joseph O'Brien-trained filly only just lost out in a blanket finish behind Admiral Nelson and may well progress from that outing, which came after a break of over four months. Iva Batt tries this trip for the first time, but comes here in good form, after beating all bar Transcendental at the Curragh on Sunday, while Red Heel gained all five wins for Mick Mulvany on a sound surface and made an encouraging reappearance for Willie McCreery at Naas recently. Mary Salome is a consistent sort in this grade.

VOICE OF REASON ran a cracker on debut last year in a Curragh maiden that has worked out well since. The Churchill gelding finished strongly over a mile when a close-up third to Cairo, who went on to win a Group 3 and was runner-up to Paddington in the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas last Saturday. Pivotal Trigger has yet to race on a sound surface but is an obvious threat. He made all in a maiden at the Galway Festival and was highly tried on both subsequent starts at Longchamp, including when placed in a Group 3 over a mile. Harbour Wind is the other winner in the line-up, having also forced the pace to make a successful debut at Cork, while Head Of State was disappointing when favourite on his only start at Dundalk last winter but should progress.

It might be worth taking a chance on HUMTAZA in this weak contest. She finished an encouraging eighth of 17 on debut at Gowran and again ran well to finish sixth on her second start at Leopardstown. She was a place ahead of Celebrating Ethel at the Foxrock venue and that one reopposes now. Spring Wind is an interesting contender for Barry Fitzgerald and she won't have to be a star to take this on debut. She is a half-sister to Listed winner Tiz The Shot and 2012 Swiss Derby victor Green Fees. Blinkers are tried on Cara Susanna and it'll be disappointing if she is not involved towards the business end. A half-sister to 2012 Irish St Leger winner Royal Diamond, she has been ultimately disappointing in four starts to date. Placed four times from 11 starts, Banned is the highest rated of those with a mark and she should give a good account of herself in a first-time hood, while Queen Of Seduction and Isotta are other leading contenders.

RATTLE AND HUM was a comfortable winner at Sligo on his most recent start and might be able to follow up, with Jake Coen again taking a valuable 5lb off. Beaten a neck into second on his penultimate outing at Cork, he had subsequent three-time victor Whisky On The Hill a place behind in third. The race conditions favour the three-year-olds in the line-up, with Autocrat another looking well treated. A Ballydoyle cast-off, he is two wins from four starts since joining Denis Hogan. Halla Ban is a recent course winner and it'll come as little surprise if she manages to follow up. Star Kissed was fifth in a competitive 18-runner handicap at the Curragh on Sunday and is another leading contender with Colin Keane aboard.

UPEPO is the selection in this wide-open contest. He is out of seven-time winner Kanes Pass, who was twice successful at Roscommon and claimed the Listed Knockaire Stakes at Leopardstown on her final start. Trained by Sheila Lavery, the selection appears to be progressing with each run and should appreciate this step up in trip after finishing well over shorter at Gowran on his most recent start. Glyde Ranger was a place ahead of him at the Co Kilkenny venue and re-opposes. Off a mark of 50, the chestnut gelding should be able to make an impact. No less than five handicap debutants take their chance, with top-weight Youcrackmeup fitted with blinkers for the first time. Notturno has some solid form to his name and is a leading contender with Dylan Browne McMonagle aboard, while Show No Fear is another for the shortlist.
