GYTO's Saturday Notebook Double pays 12/1.
16:30 Epsom
I have this between the top 2 in the betting and ready preference goes to SCAMPI for Andrew Balding. He has won 3 of his last 5 now and did it with a bit to spare in a competitive handicap at York last month. He loves fast ground and up 6lb another big run is clearly on the cards. Caius Chorister is a likeable filly who could still be capable of better so she is definitely the danger. That was a good run second to Bad Company here on reappearance and while she has won on quick ground I do think she is better with cut in it so that sways the vote. With Sir Mark Prescott going so well you’d be foolish to rule out Sea King running well too as that second at Kempton on return was a decent run and he is still fairly lightly raced. Sheer Rocks is likeable and he deserved to win at Ascot but this does look a better race now.
19:40 Lingfield
Anything Sir Mark Prescott runs right now is catching the eye and DESERT FALCON will likely prove popular at Lingfield on Saturday evening. This son of Gleneagles has only had the 3 starts and he was sent off at odds of 50/1 on debut and then 125/1 at Kempton and 200/1 when last seen at Chelmsford. He has been given plenty of time since that last run where he finished third and has undergone a wind op too. He looks the type to do better as a 3yo and with just 5 rivals to beat this represents a good opportunity for him to get off the mark before going handicapping. As long as newcomer Doras Tamar isn’t anything special City Of York will be the likely danger. He shaped with promise in four starts as a 2yo and with further improvement to come as a 3yo he should run well for a long way.
