This looks a competitive 0-80 handicap but preference goes to last year’s winner Cliffcake (best priced at 10/1) who runs off only a 1lb higher mark this year. The Roy Bowring trained five-year-old justified favouritism last year to win by 1 ¼ lengths off a mark of 75 before finishing 4th at both Doncaster and Chester off marks of 81.

Following a couple of below par efforts this season, he had dropped down to a mark of 72 before winning by a nose at Beverley 20 days ago. The handicapper has raised him 4lbs for that victory up to a mark of 76 which means he is only 1lb higher than last year and he should run well with four places on offer.

On ratings Bradsell (best priced at 33/1) only has 4lbs to find with the favourite Highfield Princess with his three-year-old allowance and he looks overpriced back at the meeting that he won the Coventry Stakes at as a two-year-old. The Archie Watson trained colt won by nine lengths at York on his debut before winning a strong renewal of the Coventry Stakes last year with Persian Force, Royal Scotsman and Blackbeard behind in 2nd, 3rd and 4th places.

Bradsell suffered an injury when sent off favourite to beat Little Big Bear in the Phoenix Stakes on his final start as a two-year-old before finishing a close 3rd in the Commonwealth Cup trial at Ascot over 6f when he got tired in the final furlong. He again weakened late on in the Sandy Lane Stakes that this drop back to 5f for the first time looks a good idea and he could hit the frame at a big price with up to six places available.

I tipped Ventura Flame (best priced at 9/1) nine days ago when 5th over this course and distance but I think he would have won the race had he not suffered interference coming out of the stalls. The Keith Dalgleish trained six-year-old has form figures of 713312285 over this course and distance in her career and her run last time can definitely be upgraded.

Ventura Flame remains on a mark of 73 which is 1lb lower than her previous two victories so she looks well handicapped and looks sure to be involved in the finish.
