Steve Ryder is back with three tips for today's action, with runners at Carlisle and Bath.
15:20 Carlisle
There are four previous winners in this race but preference goes to ALBEGREY (best priced at 7/2) who runs here under a 5lb penalty. The Tim Easterby trained four-year-old won on his reappearance this season after 264 days off the track when justifying favouritism over this course and distance. The gelding won easily by five lengths eased down at the finish under David Allen off a mark of 67 when he travelled well throughout the contest.
The handicapper has raised Albegrey 10lbs for that victory but he instead runs here with a 5lb penalty meaning that he is 5lbs “well in” at the weights. If he can cope with the nine day turnaround then he should prove hard to beat in this race despite a rise in class.
16:20 Carlisle
The Jim Goldie trained GRACES QUEST (best priced at 14/1) has a good record at Carlisle and she arrives into this race following a close 2nd last time over this course and distance. The five-year-old has form figures of 4112 over this course and distance with that fourth place finish coming in a maiden rather than a handicap. Her victories have come off marks of 63 and 64 before a close 2nd placed finish last time off a mark of 67.
Graces Quest runs here off the same mark of 67 and she should run well with up to six places available and Andrew Breslin taking off a handy 3lbs.
17:40 Bath
All four remaining runners in this 0-75 handicap have a good chance of success but preference goes to BOOK OF TALES (best priced at 13/8) who arrives here on a hat-trick. The Charlie Johnston trained three-year-old has shown consistent form in handicaps with form figures of 334311 with his latest two victories coming since the application of blinkers.
Book Of Tales won by four lengths at Bath off a mark of 57 before following up off a 5lb higher mark last time at Yarmouth by 4 ¾ lengths. The handicapper has raised the gelding 7lbs up to a mark of 69 which is fair and hopefully he can make it 3/3 in blinkers.
